UNIT DESCRIPTION
FNS50204 Diploma of Accounting

Duration: 1.5 years | Hours: 20 per week | Class size: 20 - 30

Exit point: All students who exit the course before completion will receive a certificate of attainment and a transcript of their academic record.

Career opportunities: Office administrator, office supervisor, team leader

Course duration: 21 months (full time)

Modules to be offered:

The course is designed to provide participants with the contemporary skills and knowledge needed to effectively carry out the job functions of an accountant. The course outcomes recognise the need to prepare participants for work in a culture of change. Graduates of the course will be able to move into a variety of industries. The course places emphasis on generic underlying skills, team participation and specific accounting and finance skills and knowledge over a wide field.

Business Communication
Communicate in the workplace (FNSICGEN301A)
This unit will enable students to be familiar with the communication practices particularly interacting with customers both within and external to the organisation.

Apply health and safety practices in the workplace (FNSICGEN304A)
This unit will enable students to be aware of the relevant occupational health and safety practices particularly understanding legislation as it applies to the office context, following organisational procedures and contributing to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Workplace Application of Accounting Principles
Apply principles of professional practice to work in the financial services industry (FNSICIND401A)
The unit of competency will enable students to acquire the skills needed for a daily work context within the financial services industry, with reference to industry and company procedures, guidelines, policies and standards.

Introduction to Accounting
Prepare and bank receipt (FNSICACC304A)
The unit of competency will enable students to be familiar with the functions involved in preparing and banking financial receipts.

Process journal entries (FNSICACC306A)
The unit of competency will enable students to be familiar with the processing of  financial journal entries.

Business Computing
Use technology in workplace (FNSICGEN302A)
This unit will enable students to be familiar with the skills and knowledge in the use of technology, particularly in the use of technological equipment and appropriate softwares.

Computerised Accounting system
Set up and operate a computerised accounting system (FNSACCT407A)
The unit of competency will enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills to set up and operate a computerised accounting system software package for an accounting entity.

Financial Accounting
Prepare financial reports (BSBADM408A)
The unit of competency will enable students to be familiar with the knowledge and skills to record general journal adjustment entries and prepare end-of-period financial reports such as revenue statements and balance sheets for a non-reporting entity.

Maintain financial records (BSBCMN308A)
The unit of competency will enable students to be familiar with the maintenance of financial records of a business, specifically daily financial records, including debtors and creditors, maintain a general ledger and prepare a trial balance monitor cash control

Financial Management
Prepare financial forecasts and projections (FNSICORG517B)
The unit of competency will enable students to be able to produce reliable financial forecasts and projections that serve as the basis for accounting and business decisions and planning.

Management Accounting
Provide management accounting information (FNSACCT507B)
This unit of competency will enable students to be familiar with the various costing models, the allocation of cost centres and capital budgeting that will facilitate internal decision-making and control.

Budgeting
Manage budgets and forecasts (FNSACCT503A)
The unit will enable students to have the knowledge and skills required to prepare a range of financial reports and operational budgets. They should also be able to use budgets to monitor and control organisational performance.

Control a budget (FNSICORG608B)
The unit of competency will enable students to be familiar with the
responsibility for budget management and control from an authorised plan within a budgeting period

Taxation
Prepare income tax returns (FNSACCT502A)
The unit will enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills required to gather and verify data and prepare income tax returns for individuals, in accordance with statutory requirements.

Internal Control
Implement and maintain internal control procedures (FNSACCT506A)
The unit will enable students to learn the knowledge and skills required to implement and maintain internal control procedures for corporate governance.

Financial Reporting
Prepare financial reports for reporting entity (FNSACCT504A)
This unit will enable students to gather financial information and prepare financial reports from that information in accordance with accounting standards applicable to reporting entities.

Prepare financial reports to meet statutory requirements (FNSICORG516B)
The unit of competency will enable students to gather relevant information that will enable financial reports to be prepared that meet statutory requirements.
